Woman charged with using forged document

Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old Dusun woman was charged in the Magistrate's Court, here, Thursday with using a forged document pertaining to her religious status in order to apply for a new MyKad.Zohanah @ Mimi Jamlee pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence on April 12, this year at the National Registration Department.

She allegedly used a forged notification letter of a case at the Syariah Appeals Court to apply for a new identity card.

The charge under Section 471 of the Penal Code is punishable under Section 465 of the same Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both on conviction.

The court set Aug 17 for pre-trial case management and released Zohanah on a bail of RM3,000 in two sureties.

In another case, a 51-year-old Indonesian Bugis claimed trial to similar offence.

Ruddin Asis is accused of using a forged letter of authorisation to depart to the peninsula at counter 12 of the Domestic Departure Hall of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 8am on June 19.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit applied for another mention date and objected bail for Ruddin on the grounds that he was not a Malaysian citizen.

Counsel Farazwin Haxdy, representing Ruddin, told the court that Ruddin holds a Temporary Resident Identification Card and applied for a short mention date pending verification from National Registration Department on the said card for bail application purpose.

The court set July 13 for mention and ordered Ruddin to be remanded further. - Jo Ann Mool
