Filipino is jailed for having stolen handphone

Kota Kinabalu: A 38-year-old Filipino was jailed 20 months for having a stolen handphone.Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus handed the sentence to Diang Pang who pleaded guilty, Monday.He had the stolen handphone in Telipok at 11am on July 7.

The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years, or with a fine, or both, on conviction.The court heard that on July 6, the complainant arrived home and found the kitchen's window opened and some of his belongings missing, including the handphone.The complainant then lodged a police report.Investigations revealed that the complainant's neighbour, Albar, was approached by Diang to help convert a large sum of pesos to ringgit.

Albar, suspicious of the source of the money, refused to change and instead informed the village security committee.Diang was subsequently arrested and confessed that he had the stolen handphone and other items he stole from the house.
