Man jailed for bid to steal earth wire, threatening supervisor

Kota Kinabalu: A self-employed man was jailed a total of 32 months on two counts of attempting to steal earth wire from a shop and threatening to injure the shop's worker.Robert Chung Kiam Kiong, 36, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to committing the offences t 11.03am on July 11 at the second floor of Block O, Royal Plaza in Putatan.Chung was sentenced to 16 months' jail on each count and ordered to serve the jail terms concurrently.

Inspector Albert Basiri told the court that Chung was trying to steal the electric earth wire on the said day and ran away when he realised the presence of a supervisor.Chung also threatened to stab the supervisor who was chasing him.In another case, a 43-year-old man was ordered to serve two weeks behind bars for having three chocolate bars which were believed to be stolen.Ilham Nasim Hiew Abdullah admitted to committing the offence under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance.

Ilham was detained outside the Servay Premier Supermarket at the basement of the Centre Point Complex at 11.03am on July 11 for having the chocolates worth RM25.23.He failed to give reasonable explanation as to how he obtained the chocolate bars.
