Sandakan: Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong urged the Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) to inspect every occupied house of People's Housing Programme (PPR) Taman Murni to check if it is rented out. This is to ensure that the government assistance such as houses for the low-income community is not manipulated by irresponsible individuals.

He also hoped SMC can provide more rubbish bins at PPR Taman Harmoni to accommodate the increased number of residents.

Speaking to reporters after visiting PPR Taman Harmoni, Calvin suggested SMC build proper hawker stalls for residents to run business.

Meanwhile, he said in order to benefit youths, a futsal court needs to be constructed at the residential area.

"After visiting PPR Taman Harmoni, I can see that we can build more facilities to benefit the residents.

"As for now, PPR Taman Harmoni is equipped with a multipurpose hall, a Kemas kindergarten, children's playground and a 'surau'.

"However, PPR Taman Harmoni can be more lively if we can build a futsal court, proper hawker stalls, a car wash place and even a police beat base to monitor the safety of residents in the area, " he said.

Calvin also advised all residents of PPR Taman Harmoni to co-operate with the cleaners

"Residents of PPR Taman Harmoni must be responsible to care for their surroundings by not littering indiscriminately," he added.

For the record, there are 1,000 units of houses in PPR Taman Harmoni where local residents are occupying 800 of them. - Winnie Kasmir
