Keningau: The United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) hopes to collect 26,000 thumbprints from among its members in a Thumbs Up For Sabah programme in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16."I expect the thumbprints to be collected from members of all divisions of this party throughout Sabah," Acting Party President Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said after launching the Keningau divisional Upko Thumbs Up For Sabah held in conjunction with the Santai Bersama Ahli Upko at Kampung Semangkuk Apin-Apin here on Sunday.

He said all the collections of thumbprints will form the Sabah flag.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal would officiate.

Madius, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, said each party division would collect 1,000 thumbprints and this means that upon arrival Malaysia Day celebration, Upko will be able to collect about 26,000 thumbprints that will be included in the parcels to become Sabah flags.

"The purpose of the programme is to foster the spirit of patriotism among the people in the state, especially among the new generation who are increasingly forgetting the formation of Malaysia," he said.

Meanwhile, Madius who is also Minister of Trade and Industry, said the party was reorganizing its administration machinery at the branch and division levels until October this year.

He said, Upko is getting stronger as more people joining in the party including from opposition parties and this development is very encouraging.

Madius said Upko would also use its own party symbol when facing the coming 15th General Election.

Earlier when delivering his speech at the event, he reminded the people that the Upko entry to join the Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form the government is not for the sake of the party but for the people.

He said all the negative action against the on Upko's leadership should be stopped for the continued development of the people in the state. - Johan Aziz
