Esscom wants Esszone as no-fly zone for drones
Published on: Saturday, August 11, 2018

Lahad Datu: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) wants the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) to be gazetted as a no-fly zone for drones or the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Esscom Commander DCP Datuk Hazani Ghazali said they will submit a proposal to the relevant authorities.

He said this was in line with Esszone as a security area.

"I propose Esszone to be gazetted as a no-fly zone for drones, except for security forces or those with permits," he told reporters here Friday.

Hazani said the use of drones in the Esszone should be prohibited for security reasons unless authorised by the authorities, including the Department of Civil Aviation.

"I do not want drones to be flown in areas like the road checkpoints or control posts due to security reasons," he said. - Eifa Rizan
