Kota Kinabalu: Just across the main road from Sacred Heart Primary School next to the Petronas Office Block, is the former residence of Datuk Pang Tet Tshung, who died on July 30, in Phoenix, Arizona aged 94.Pang's semi-wooden house with its flag poles still intact is located along a formerly residential housing road now frequented by visitors and vehicles amid offices, warehouses and hotels. Hence, a prime location for commercial redevelopment. The situation is reflective of those who migrated but were well off and so saw no need to sell their assets in Sabah. The architecture of the house is also unique to the post-WWII years which should be recorded and documented by the Sabah Museum.

The other unique simple ministerial house is that of former Chief Minister Tan Sri Peter Lo in Tanjung Aru, which was reportedly bought from an expatriate banker for $200,000 back in 1958 and enjoys a commanding view of the South China Sea. Lo even took the Kinabalu yacht club to court when it began stacking up boats that blocked this view.He produced in court evidence that his house was guaranteed unhindered visual access of the sea.
