Jail and fine for cheating woman over car

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed local woman was jailed a total of six years and fined RM1,800 by the Magistrate's Court here Monday on six counts of cheating another woman over the purchase of a car.Siti Hamidah Abd Hamzah, 34, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to committing the offence between Nov 21, 2017 and Dec 19 the same year at the Federal Administrative Complex, here.The charges stated that Siti Hamidah allegedly cheating one Alus Mumin by making Alus purchase a Perodua Axia from her.

Her trick caused Alus to transfer RM500, RM500, RM500, RM500, RM300 and RM200 to her bank accounts, respectively, on Nov 21, Nov 25, Dec 2, Dec 8, Dec 11 and Dec 19.Siti Hamidah was sentenced to a year's jail and fined RM300 or two months jail on each count.The court ordered Siti Hamidah to serve the jail term for the first three counts to run concurrently, while the sentence of the fourth count was ordered be to run consecutively with the first three counts.The jail term on the fifth and sixth count were ordered to be run concurrently with the sentence of the fourth count, which meant Siti Hamidah will spend two years in prison in total.

Earlier, prosecuting officer Inspector Albert Basiri told the court that Alus dealt with Umie to purchase a Perodua Axia by way of continuing the loans.Umie, later identified as Siti Hamidah, offered Alus the car by telling her that the car belonged to her cousin's fiancé and that the deposit for the car was RM4,500.
