Kuala Lumpur: Go Automobile Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (GAM) and Sirim Bhd have signed a memorandum of understanding to form a long-term strategic collaboration and partnership. In a joint statement on Tuesday, GAM and Sirim said the collaboration would encompass the development and improvement of products, technology, people and the industry.

It would also allow GAM access to Sirim's research facilities while cooperation in technical expertise, technology transfer and technical training will enable them to execute projects or products.

The rationalisation of the collaboration is expected to be completed within two years after the signing.

"Our manufacturing will be able to meet regulatory and market requirements whilst indirectly enabling us to reduce our production and research and development costs," said Go Auto Group of Companies Executive Director Datuk SM Azli SM Nasimuddin Kamal. GAM is the group's manufacturing arm.

SM Azli added that the collaboration is also in line with the National Automotive Policy (NAP), which aims to come up with products that meet international standards and requirements.

Meanwhile, Sirim President and Group Chief Executive Prof Ir. Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani said areas of collaboration would include development and improvement in capability and capacity of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries to replace lead-acid batteries in the automotive market. – Bernama
