Kota Kinabalu: A former clerk of Pos Malaysia was jailed six years and fined of RM50,000 or another six months for committing criminal breach of trust involving a sum of RM49,156.92.Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad handed the sentence to Rosline Midi, 32, after she changed his plea and admitted to the charge against her.

Rosline had breached the trust by misusing the money entrusted to her at 1pm on March 31, 2017 at the Post Office in Likas, here.

The offence under Section 408 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between a year and 14 years, and whipping, on conviction.

Counsel Henry Gudid, who defended Rosline, asked for leniency saying that his client had admitted to the charge which had save the court's time and cost.

Gudid also told the court that Rosline has a family to look after and that she had worked with Pos Malaysia since 2008 until she was suspended from work due to the case in 2017.

He added that it was Rosline's first offence.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Rustam Sanip urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence on the grounds that Rosline had committed a serious offence by misusing the money entrusted to her.- Cynthia D Baga
