Indonesians receive RM415k for Asiad gold

JAKARTA: Indonesian athletes who won the gold medal at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games have received a Rp1.5 billion (about RM415,000) incentive from the Indonesian Government. The cash prize of Rp1.5 billion is for every gold medal that they won. Indonesia won a total of 31 gold, 24 silver and 43 bronze medals finishing fourth overall in the Games which took place from Aug 18 to Sept 2. Indonesian paragliding athlete, Jafro Megawanto was the most successful athlete, winning two golds and one bronze. Athletes who won the silver medal received a bonus of Rp500 million, while bronze medal winners received Rp250 million each. Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister, Imam Nahrawi said Indonesian athletes who failed to win any medals also received a cash bonus of Rp20 million.
