Tuavui Veteran emerge champs

Kota Kinabalu: Tuavui Veteran were crowned champions in the Merdeka Challenge Invitational Football Tournament 2018 organised by Penampang Unity Football Club held in conjunction with the Merdeka Day celebration at the Penampang Stadium on September 1-2. The two-day tournament was conducted in a round robin format where Tuavai Veteran collected maximum points with their unbeaten run by defeating six other teams.

They took home the RM700 cash prize plus trophy while their player, Vincent Yapp also emerged as top scorer in the tournament with six goals. Tuavui manager Jumin Gondikit was pleased with his players and praised their commitment and fighting spirit.

He added that the tournament served as a warm-up for his team as they prepare for the upcoming Liga Perpaduan Sabah competition.

The prizes was presented by Penampang District Officer Robert Stidi and he encouraged more tournaments to be held in the district to instil the spirit of patriotism and interaction among the football fraternity and the community.

Meanwhile, the other six teams in the competition were Darkhorse, Bema, Keningau, Telipok, PPP and Kobusak. – GL Oh
