Selangor: Selangor police have launched a new hotline for the public to report on crime in the state.State police chief Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the hotline would make it easier for the public to send information to the police via a text message or WhatsApp.

"The public can channel crime prevention matters through this line, especially those involving illegal gambling and so on.

"However, the police will not entertain any phone calls via this line. Those alerting us about crime incidents should not worry as their information and details will be kept secret," he told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters here today.

Mazlan said they decided to launch the mobile phone number in keeping with today's trend of smart phone usage.

"We realise that people always have their mobile phones close to them. By using SMS and Whatsapp, we can receive information from multiple people at any given time.

"We hope the public will use this avenue responsibly and only share with us logical and credible information on crime," he said.
