Weightlifters bank on their ladies to deliver gold
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is banking on women athletes to achieve the three-gold target in weightlifting at the 19th Sukma Games in Perak which will begin today (Friday) at the Merdeka Hall at Tapah District Council, Batang Padang.Team manager Bell Yasoi is confident Elly Cassandra Engelbert (53kg), Marceeta Marylyn Marcus (58kg) and Caroline Joachim (90kg) are able to win gold in their respective categories.

"Our target is at least three gold medals from our athletes. Elly, Marceeta and Caroline are our best bet to achieve that. Elly and Marceeta are both based in Bukit Jalil while Caroline is based in Tambunan.

"With medals available for both Clean & Jerk as well as Snatch events for each weight categories, therefore there are chances that we may be able to win more gold and furthermore, we also have high hope that the rest of the squad may spring some surprises too.

"However, we will stick to our three-gold target and will give our very best to deliver for the State contingent," he said on Thursday.

The squad left for Perak on Wednesday and are represented by Velerick Martin (56kg) and Kevdylan Wong (69kg) for the men and Nilcy Tunik (48kg), Fendylina Adim (48kg), Elly Cassandra Engelbert (53kg), Marceeta Marylyn Marcus (58kg), Sheren Lueh (63kg), Kartina Dumin (69kg) and Caroline Joachim (above 90kg) for the women.
