Sabah hope to achieve their five-gold target

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah athletes are hoping to achieve their target of five gold medals at the 19th Sukma Games which will begin tomorrow (Monday) at the Perak Stadium.Team manager Ali Aman said the athletes started training immediately after the Sabah Games last year and they also had a training stint in Baguio City, Philippines this year.

"Our target is to repeat our achievement at the last Sukma in Kuching two years ago with five gold medals.

"I am confident we can achieve that with the training that the athletes had under the coaches led by head coach Dzulfiqar Ag Anak.

"Our best prospects are Mohd Alif Razi (javelin), Brynoth Alarick Larry (shot putt), Andrea Anura (triple jump), Marlin Hing William (3000m steeple chase) and Eizlan Dahalan (high jump)," he said, Saturday.

Meanwhile, the team led by him and eight other officials with 45 athletes left for Ipoh on Saturday.

The 27 male athletes in the team are Alvin Roland (triple jump); Andre Anura (triple jump/long jump); Azhad Kathidin Masile (4x 400m); Beckham Buing (javelin); Benedick Ian Gawok (110m hurdle); Brynoth Alarick (shotputt); Desmond Wong (4 x100m); Farell Glen Felix Jurus (high jump); Isaiah Ng (4 x 400m); Jomon Papau (800m/1500m); Mirach Han (discus); Eizlan Dahalan (high jump); Erwan Amir Hamja (3000m steeplechase); Farid Iqwan Endjon (4 x100m); Nor Musyara Sari (4 x 100m); Alif Razi (javelin); Arif Farhan Ali (4 x100m); Azmir Abd Rahman (4x400m); Muhd Din Norbil (100m/200m/ 4x 100m); Sunik Muslimin (long jump); R.
