Keningau: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) President Tan Sri Joseph Kurup expressed concern over the alleged issuance of citizenship application forms to illegal immigrants and the possibility of them being issued identity cards (ICs) and voting in the next general election. The previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government had carried out an exercise on issuance of ICs and birth certificates but it was done with the involvement of the National Registration Department and security officials as well as village heads to provide confirmation to the Registrar. In the current exercise it is not like that, he said. "Also, there may be a hidden agenda behind the continuous fire incidents involving squatter homes," the former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department and ex-Pensiangan Member of Parliament said when officiating the Liawan PBRS Division's restructuring meeting at Sento Hotel, here.ADVERTISEMENT Kurup said the new Government should do more to help the poor people especially farmers and noted the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Government promised in its manifesto to give at least RM300 a month to assist the B40 group."The Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) or Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) monetary assistance should be continued and increased annually, instead of being stopped as announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad," he said. Kurup also reminded all party leaders and members to be more prepared to face future election by portraying their personal and leadership quality and regularly going down to the ground to help the people. PBRS Deputy President Arthur Joseph Kurup, meanwhile, said PBRS is a local-based party which has been fighting for the rights and interests of the people since long time ago.ADVERTISEMENT "What we are fighting for is a 20 per cent royalty oil from the Petronas gross profit for Sabah and not just five per cent. If the PH Government truly wants to assist the people and is concerned over Sabah, then the time has come for the oil royalty to be given," he said.
