Govt will uphold principles of MA63: DPM

Keningau: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Monday said the Pakatan Harapan-led Government will uphold the principles of the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63), some of which are inscribed on the Keningau Oath Stone.She said it was also the Federal Government's stand to always preserve the Keningau Oath Stone, which summarises the 20-point agreement to protect the rights of the people of Sabah."The Oath Stone is a historical artefact which contains the summary of the agreement and guarantees given by the Malaysian Government to Sabah," she said when opening the Consumer Empowerment Programme in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration, here.ADVERTISEMENT Also present were Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister who is also State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Christina Liew.The Keningau Oath Stone was recently relocated from the compound of the Keningau District Office to the Keningau Heritage Museum at a cost of RM1.025 million.Earlier, Dr Wan Azizah said the people must take the trouble to understand their rights and roles as consumers to avoid from becoming victims of the irresponsible groups who will try to take opportunities available.She said if they understood their rights and roles as consumers, they would be able to play a role in determining the prices of goods in the market.ADVERTISEMENT "This can be done if all of us are smart in planning and controlling our expenditure. Spend wisely and buy what you need only and make price comparison at the outlets before making any purchase," she said.According to Dr Wan Azizah, consumers too had to play their role as the eyes and ears of the Government in delivering relevant information regarding malpractices by the businessmen.

She said the consumers could send their complaints via the various channels provided by the Ministry, including the WhatsApp application."It's so simple, just take the photograph, type the information on the premises and just send via the Ministry's WhatsApp (019-2794317). I was given the assurance by the Domestic Trade Ministry that action would be taken on every complaint within 24 hours," she said.Dr Wan Azizah said consumers should assist the Government by providing information via the proper channels that had been specified as the number of officers at the Domestic Trade and Consumerism Ministry was limited.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

At the event, Dr Wan Azizah also launched the Food Bank Malaysia Programme, to assist in reducing the people's cost of living burden, especially those from the low-income group.Meanwhile, Saifuddin, in his speech, said the cost of living action council which had been reactivated and chaired by Dr Wan Azizah would hold its first meeting on Sept 27.
