Kota Kinabalu: Mohd Nooridhuan Awang, the solo runner from Sipitang to Kota Kinabalu in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebration, reached his destination safely at 8.55am, Sunday. The 30-year-old Padas Valley Parti Warisan Sabah Wira chief was welcomed by Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yaacob at the Double Six Memorial Park, in Sembulan, here.

Yusof said the inaugural programme was part of the effort to instil patriotism, especially among the young generation.

"The run aims to create awareness and to set an example for the people that as Malaysians, we love the country and that is why we celebrate the formation of Malaysia today (Sept 16)," he said.

He also hoped the programme can be made into an annual affair as a symbol of unity under the Malaysian flag, Jalur Gembilang.

"I hope we will unite under the flag to materialise the development of Sipitang, Sabah and Malaysia.

"Our mission is to change and, as such, all of us have to change and uphold this mission."
