Jelius disappointed with Rhinos reserve performance
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Rhinos Head Coach Jelius Ating expressed his disappointment on his team as the team's reserve players failed to put up a battle on the starting lineup against Pahang at Likas Stadium, here.He said the reserve players selected to be on the lineup were given a chance to prove that they are worthy to play on the main lineup.

"Somehow, some of them have truly disappointed me when we faced a huge defeat. I really did not expect their poor performance as they are actually needed at any time during a match. I hope they have learnt a valuable lesson from this bitter loss," he said after being contacted, Tuesday.

Sabah Rhinos' unbeaten run in the Malaysia Cup came to a shuddering halt when they suffered a 4-0 loss to Pahang Elephants squad on Monday's Group D final stage

Before the match, Jelius had only selected four main players in the lineup in order to allow other injured players to rest as well as preventing them from being suspended if they were to receive a yellow card on that night.

Despite the defeat, the team will be proceeding into the quarter-finals stage after having already secured their last eight berth before Monday's game.

The team finished on top of the group with 13 points with Pahang coming close to second with 11 points.

Jelius said should not take a toll on their recent defeat and focus on their first leg of the quarter-finals match against Kelantan on September 22 at Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium, Kota Bharu, coming Saturday.

"We must continue to push on and never look back as this is no longer the group stages. We must give our fullest attention and focus in order to achieve our dreams to go further in the Malaysia Cup.

"The players will return for training tomorrow and we do not have much time as our next task will not be an easy feat. We must prepare 100 per cent," he said.

They are then scheduled to entertain Kelantan's visit at the Likas Stadium, here, on September 29. - Locksley Ng
