State Sec's advice to civil servants
Sandakan: Civil servants are advised to do their job and responsibilities without bias, especially in the New Government era.

The advice came from State Secretary, Datuk Hashim Paijan, who said civil servants must also show great professionalism in their work, ready to enhance their working skills from time to time and use their working experiences the best possible.

"Leave the old attitude and don't be too comfortable but work for the community, work professionally, increase knowledge and skills, and always be ready to provide the best services to the local community," he said.

"We must be dynamic and change our way of thinking according to current situation and be progressive," he said during his visit at the Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC), here, Thursday.

State Public Services Director Datuk Nordin Siman, Chief Minister's Department's Under Secretary Zainuddin Aman, SMC President Datuk Peter Hii Chang Lik, his deputy Mohd Hamsah Awang Supain, SMC Secretary Faridah Giau and over 30 officers, department heads and staff, were also present.

It was Hashim's maiden visit to Sandakan since he took over the post.

Wanting to see the public agency's administration landscape improved, Hashim also advised civil servants to work with integrity and stay away from corruption.

He said civil servants also must work on time, be honest and dedicated in discharging their duties and responsibilities.

Apart from that, he said they should not get involved in politics although it is not prohibited in a democratic country. But if any of them still want to hold on to their respective political post, then maybe they should quit, he added.

He also wants civil servants to be sincere and trustworthy when given the responsibility and never betray their respective department and superior.

Meanwhile, Yii said Hashim's visit is a morale booster for SMC in its effort to provide the best services, especially to Sandakan folks.

He said SMC is a very important entity in providing services needed by the community, because it is the third- tier administration in the State administration hierarchy.

As head of a large department like SMC, Hii said he and his SMC workforce will give their best commitment and services to the community, and they will work with great trustworthy and will not tolerate corruption among its staff and officials.

"SMC's vision is to achieve independence and create a cleaner, beautiful, peaceful, harmony progressive environment which will continue to be our reference in providing services to the community...this is our promise and commitment, and we hope to get the support from all in order to have this realised," he said. - Mardinah Jikur
