No travel warning: Consul
Semporna: The Chinese Consulate here does not intend to issue any travel warning to the east coast following the recent kidnap of two Indonesian fishermen because it has full confidence in the police and the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).Consul General Liang Caide (pic) speaking on his second visit here also said the kidnapping would not affect China tourists visiting Semporna.

"I thank the district police chief Supt Peter Umbuas and the District Council for their efforts in promoting tourism while ensuring tourist safety.

"They have given our consulate a great help, indeed," Liang said. More than 356,000 tourists visited Semporna in the first eight months this year.

It is believed that the number would reach 500,000 by the end of the year.

Liang also believed Semporna has the potential to match Bali, if basic facilities and security are improved.

"Tourist facilities also must be developed to accommodate more local and foreign visitors; such as building more hotels and home stays," he said.
