Case of mistaken identity

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Youth Chief Raymond Ahuar has been cleared of a rape accusation by two Indonesian women that went viral, recently, as investigations by Sabah police revealed that they mistook him for another who has since been arrested.State Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said investigations into the report lodged by the women aged 36 and 23, revealed that the suspect was a 31-year-old local from Keningau.The suspect is a self-employed farmer. "The suspect admitted committing the rape and is not the PKR Youth Chief (Raymond).

"Therefore, I call on all to stop making speculations over the case which is not true and involved the wrong person. Furthermore, the PKR Youth Chief had also lodged a report in Keningau to deny the allegation being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation," he said.Raymond, who is Political Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew, lodged the report following a video that went viral in social media. Raymond, who is contesting the PKR deputy chief in the coming party election under team Rafizi Ramli, hoped the authorities would investigate the motive of the allegations which have affected his name and family.Speaking to reporters after attending a State Security Council meeting here on Tuesday, Omar said both women did not lodge a false police report but did state that they were raped by somebody else and did not name Raymond as the culprit.The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for committing rape.

In the video spread in the social media showed a woman who identified herself as Linda who claimed that she and her friend known as Wilda were brought to Sabah by a man whom she identified as Raden and Raymond Ahuar.In the video, one of the victims showed an injury on her left arm claiming she was physically abused with an iron. They also claimed to have lodged a report but failed to mention the place and date of the report.

Omar said he would look at the video again and call back the women for further investigations, if necessary.On whether action will be taken against the person who spread the video in the social media, Omar said the police will check and find out who spread the video in the first place.Meanwhile, POLICE Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said police are still investigating the alleged criminal intimidation claim by the TYT Tun Juhar Mahiruddin against former Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.He said the investigation papers would be submitted to the Federal Attorney-General for further directive soon.Asked why the case was taking so long, Omar said many directives have been issued for the case when the investigations papers have been submitted several times to the Federal A-G office.He said investigations into the alleged claim by the TYT started even before he was appointed as the State Commissioner of Police.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
