Christian eyes second doubles title

Kota Kinabalu: Christian Chin is hoping to win his second doubles title in a month at the 2nd HCL Asian Junior Tennis Championships to be held in Pune, India from October 22-27.The 18-year-old Sabahan who will leave for India tomorrow (Thursday) had won the doubles title with Taiwanese partner Chang Lin Tsai in the recent China Junior 16 Tennis tournament in Beijing at the end of September.He will partner Serge Fomin from Uzbekistan in the Grade B 1 tournament starting next Monday.

The two had partnered before and managed to reach the semi-final of the Yeltsin Cup tournament in Russia early this year."We had a very good partnership in our first outing where we managed to reach the semi-final stage in Russia. Hopefully with this tournament held in Asia we will finally get the job done, and I think it is possible if we play to our best on the court," he said on Tuesday.Christian, who finished runner-up in the singles last year, however, ruled out his chances of winning the title in his second appearance."Of course I would very much like to win the title after the near miss last year, but with the issues I had earlier in the year added with the brief lay off, I am just going out there to enjoy myself this time around.

He will have four more competitions to play before the end of the year starting with Korean G1 and B1 tournaments right after the 2nd HCL Asian Junior Tennis meet followed by a G1 and GA tournaments in the United States later in the year. – GL Oh
