Meeting to boost cooperation in maritime ops in east coast

Sandakan: A meeting was recently held to boost cooperation in improving the effectiveness of maritime operations in the waters off Sabah's east coast. The meeting was held between the Royal Malaysian Navy, security enforcement teams and State government agencies at the Region 2 Naval Base's meeting room here. It was chaired by Naval Region 2 Commander Rear Admiral Dato Ganesh Navaratnam and was attended by representatives from the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), marine police (Sandakan, Semporna and Lahad Datu), Joint Task Force 2, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the National Security Council.

The meeting aims to strengthen cooperation in the implementation of maritime operations in the waters off the east coast through the enhancement of collaboration among the maritime enforcement agency.The meeting was also held to clarify the objective of shifting the Region 2 Naval Base to Sandakan, which is to assist Esscom, Joint Task Force 2 and all other security enforcement agencies in the east coast. It also saw the agreement among all those involved in enhancing existing partnerships by creating new initiatives to strengthen joint operations and improve information sharing. The collaboration is aimed at increasing interaction at tactical level and capacity building. Esscom as the coordinator plays the main role in coordinating strength among all those involved.
