Found hoarding controlled goods in Keningau

Keningau: Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Enforcement Keningau Branch seized controlled items worth RM94,000 in a warehouse on a private land in a village here.It was the largest seizure involving controlled items in the district this year, said the Keningau Branch Head of KPDNHEP, Gunasegaran Krishnan, Friday. Based on public complaints and intelligence for three weeks, the branch KPDNHEP with 10 Enforcement Officers raided the warehouse on Oct 17.ADVERTISEMENT "Officials found sugar, flour and cooking oil in a large quantity stored in the warehouse," he told said.Results of the initial investigation found that the warehouse was a place for storing various types of groceries as well as controlled items before being distributed.The warehouse owner who was at the scene during the raid had failed to produce any approval to keep the control items.According to him, all controlled items seized would be investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 read together with Per.3 (1) of the Control of Supply Regulations 1974 for having such items without licence.ADVERTISEMENT "I advise traders and the public not to store such items without a permit form the KPDNHEP."This is a serious offense and shall be liable to a fine not exceeding RM1 million or to imprisonment not exceeding three years or both to individuals.

"For the company, a fine not exceeding RM2 million and for a second offence or so on a fine not exceeding RM5 million," he said.Gunasegaran also advised consumers and the public at Upper Interior namely, Keningau, Tenom, Nabawan, Tambunan, Sook, Kemabong and Pagalungan to channel information if there is suspicion of engaging in illegal activities.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

He said they could report to the KPDNHEP in this district if any of them were suspected of conducting this activity including storing controlled items without license and permits in their respective places.He said the operations and monitoring will continue from time to time. - Johan Aziz
