Jeffrey says will retire if MA63 rights honoured

Ranau: Parti Solidarity Tanah Airku (Star) President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (pic) said he will retire from politics should all the rights of Sabahans in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and 20 Points be honoured by the current Federal Government."If that happens, then the land and people of Sabah are the ones who will enjoy the benefit, not me. This is what we have been fighting for all this while, and we are looking forward for it to be honoured," he said.

He said he had gone through many atrocious moments in his political career when the then Barisan Nasional government under Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had to arrest him under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for voicing out Sabahans' rights.

"But it is a good thing today, maybe it's God's will that Dr Mahathir is back as Prime Minister, so that he would amend his error and make right what was once done wrongly," he said.

Jeffrey, who is also the President of Borneo Dayak Forum, was speaking when officiating the MA63 and 20 Points Seminar, organised by the Persatuan Kebudayaan Kebajikan Ekonomi Mamasok Sabah, at the Ranau Community Hall on Saturday.

Jeffrey said with the interest of the current Government concerning the rights of Sabah and Sarawak, it is hoped that the fate of the people of the two states, especially the future generations, would be much brighter.

"Otherwise, we would resort to three eventualities if things don't turn out right. Firstly, the leaders in power must find the solution to this problem, secondly, let things be like what it is for the last 50 years or so, and thirdly, just divorce (cessation).

"Nowadays more and more of our young people are becoming tired of the empty promises made by those in power to restore the rights of Sabah and Sarawak," he said.

Jeffrey said among the issues that exist today, two matters need to be resolved, namely the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement through the Malaysian Constitution and restoring the status of Sabah according to the Agreement.
