Jimmy warns contractors to perform or face sacking
Tawau: Assistant Minister to the State Chief Minister, Datuk Jimmy Wong Sze Phin, strongly warned all contractors in the district municipal council to comply with their contract of work regulations and carry out their works dutifully for the people's well-being or face sacking by the district council.Jimmy, who is also Sri Tanjung Assemblyman, said the contractors should bear the responsibility in getting their jobs done on the stated timeline and ensuring their work is of high quality at all times.

He also urged the district council to strictly monitor their contractors and to be afraid to sack them if they failed to perform. The irresponsible contractors would hamper the government's effort to reform the State.

He said this after a working visit to the Tawau Fishery market here after receiving many complaints about the hygiene and safety at the market recently.

"I have discovered that the surroundings of Tawau fish market is very dirty and some of the sewage drains are clogged and smelly. Some cements also collapsed, which are accidents waiting to happen.

"Previously, we can see the contractors carrying out cleanliness works in the market here. Nowadays, we cannot see them (contractors) coming here anymore."

He strongly called upon the district council to ensure their contractors comply with the contract of work regulations and realise the government's determination to reform the State. For any complaints, members of public can contact Sri Tanjung Community Development Leader Koo Hung Eow at 014-650 3837 or Councillor Philip Yap at 012-801 3652. - Christy Chok
