Focus on developing Sabah, urges Shafie
Kota Kinabalu: The State Government is determined to move forward after facing various "disturbances" for six months, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.Addressing supporters after being declared as the valid Sabah Chief Minister by the High Court in Kota Kinabalu Wednesday, Shafie said he hoped everyone would receive the ruling amicably.

"I am grateful to Allah…and we have to make sure that the people will remain united. The way forward is to develop Sabah and look after the interest of the people. This is crucial," he said.

"Hopefully there will be no more disturbances from quarters who want to hamper our efforts to defend the people, especially the poor people of Sabah.

"We cannot do our duties properly for six months (after the formation of the State Government) due to the interference."

He also hoped the people would not get overly emotional over the court's decision.

"I hope the court's ruling today (Wednesday) can be accepted by all quarters as there is a lot of work to be done for the State.

"I apologise to everyone as this legal process has affected the people…now we have to stand united to ensure that the State can be defended rightfully," he said.

He was also pleased that the court proceedings went smoothly and stressed that from the beginning, he had put his trust on the court to carry out its duties.

As for the opposition, Shafie hoped they could play a good and effective role. "What is more important is they play their role well by commenting when it is due.
