Police cripple online gambling

Kuala Lumpur: Police have crippled an online gambling syndicate with stakes amounting to RM3.36 million a month following the arrest of five men at an apartment in Jalan Klang Lama here.Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the syndicate, believed to have been active since a year ago, had 20,000 registered players.He said the suspects, all Malaysians and in their 20s, were arrested about 3.45 pm last Friday.ADVERTISEMENT "The syndicate promotes their service through the WhatApps and WeChat applications and also the short service messaging system by using GSM SMS Blasting Machine. He said the police were now looking for the leader of the syndicate.During the raid, he said, police also seized 14 sets of computers, 40 SIM cards, a GSM SMS Blasting Machine, 42 handphones and five laptops. – Bernama
