Penjara FC emerge champions
Kota Kinabalu: Penjara FC captured the inaugural Sabah Open Football Champion League after a hard fought 1-0 extra time win over KDM Labuan at the Penampang Stadium, Sunday morning.Former Rhinos Jufrey Omopor was the hero for the team after he netted the winner in the 108th minute of extra time after both teams were unable to find the net on Saturday.

The match then had to be postponed to Sunday with five minutes of extra time remaining to play due to bad weather and bad light.

Head coach Roslan Wasli was happy to see the players led by former Rhinos Billyton Vun Ket Min, Randy Acho, Jufrey and others managing to overcome their much younger opponents.

"I am really pleased with the performance of the boys. Despite the slippery pitch they used all their experience to deny the young team from Labuan to score.

"It was a 50-50 match and when the match resumed this morning with only five minutes to play, I instructed them to attack from the start and I am glad it paid off," he said.

He also expressed his gratitude on behalf of the team to State Prisons Department Director Suria Idris and other officials for their support.

Meanwhile, with the win, Penjara FC took home cash prize of RM15,000 with KDM Labuan getting RM8,000 while DBKK FT who clinched third place with a walkover in the playoff by Quilmes FC received RM5,000. - GL Oh
