TM fulfilled deal with POIC
Kota Kinabalu: Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) had duly provided the relevant telecommunication network and infrastructure services to the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) and in accordance to the provisions of the agreement.TM in a statement, also clarified that the unifi High Speed Broadband services were only made available in Sabah in 2014, after TM had fully delivered the POIC project.

Responding to a recent report quoting a consumer NGO in Daily Express on the provisioning of telecommunications infrastructure at POIC put forth by Consumer Front of Sabah (CFOS), he said as the nation's pioneer broadband provider and now convergence champion, TM has been continuously investing in its infrastructure, both its fibre and cooper network, over the years to deliver high speed broadband with a wider nationwide coverage to all Malaysians, including Sabah.

"Especially for Sabah, TM, through TM Sabah is committed towards developing network infrastructure and providing telecommunication services for the benefit of Sabahan.

"This is in line with the Government's aspiration to increase the broadband penetration in East Malaysia including Sabah," it said.

It said in the areas where TM is unable to serve customers with high speed broadband services, they look to accelerate discussions with the Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to explore specific funding options, various fit-for-purpose technologies as well as optimising existing industry mechanisms in order to deliver a better broadband experience nationwide.

"We also wish to highlight that the upgrading of telecommunication services in Sabah are not only implemented in residential areas but also in business areas including in POIC Sandakan and Lahad Datu.

"As a matter of fact, an agreement to establish a strategic alliance between TM and POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd was signed in 2007 for the provisioning of telecommunications network and infrastructure of the Lahad Datu POIC project construction and development, with the total cost of the project was RM1.0million.

It said under the agreement, the scope of works given to TM was not limited to providing internet services only but also include voice, data and any other telecommunication services available within the TM's offerings.

"Currently, we are in the midst of network development planning for deploying unifi infrastructure in POIC Sandakan and Lahad Datu and unifi services are expected to be readily available for POIC Sandakan by March next year," it said.

It also reiterated that T, through TM Sabah, remains committed to rolling out the services in the state to deliver a seamless digital lifestyle to the customers and businesses in Sabah, true to their vision of "Making Life and Business Easier, for a Better Malaysia".
