Kalabakan flash floods
Tawau: Flash floods hit five villages in Kalabakan due to continuous downpour since the wee hours of Friday.The affected villages are Kampung Rancangan Kalabakan, Kampung Mangga, Kampung Murut, Kampung Kebun Sapi and Felda Utara Kalabakan, while the teacher's quarters of SK Kalabakan and SMK Kalabakan were also flooded.

Kalabakan volunteer firefighter chairman Kadir Imran said, his team of 25 volunteers were still monitoring the situation.

"To date, some 40 victims had been transferred to safer ground," he said, adding the other victims had returned home.

He said, they have been transferring flood victims since 6.30am.

"We use three boats, including one from Tawau Fire and Rescue Station in the rescue operation," he said.

The situation, he said, is under control with the assistance of Tawau Fire and Rescue Station, Kalabakan police station and Rela.

Meanwhile, Tawau Fire and Rescue Station reported that they received a public call at 6.40am to inform them that 67 houses were affected in the flood. -Lagatah Toyos
