Bum-Bum a macro diving potential site

Semporna: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) has identified Pulau Bum-Bum as a potential macro diving site with diverse and unique minute marine creatures. Sabah Motac Director Ag Ahmad Zaki Abu Bakar said there is more to Semporna than just a transit point to well-known Sipadan for larger marine life, where there is high potential of Pulau Bum-Bum's macro dive site leading to new marine discovery. "For example, the skeleton shrimps are literally everywhere, by the thousands in Pulau Bum Bum. This will highlight Semporna and Sabah as a notable macro dive site in the world and because of the intense marine biodiversity here, new species might be discovered and attract more local researchers to study these remarkable animals," he said.

From Nov 19 to 21, Motac Sabah in collaboration with the Marine Ecosystem Research Centre (Ekomar) of Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) conducted a three-day programme on marine biodiversity profiling at the island.
