Term of TYT among matters on Assembly agenda: CM
Kota Kinabalu: The term of the current Yang di-Pertua Negeri will be among issues to be tabled at Thursday's special sitting of the State legislative assembly.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said this in response to question after witnessing the final dividend presentation ceremony by Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd (WHSSB) to the State Government for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2017 held at the State Administration Building here, Tuesday.

He, however, did not elaborate saying "it is not for us to debate here, that is going to be one of the issues to be touched."

When pressed further, he said "We will say when the time comes".

He also said there will be a lot of Bills that will be done not only this year but next year as well, adding that amendments of the Constitution will be done and Land Ordinance, among others.

He said amendments to the State Constitution are not unusual and there may be more in the coming years.

"We want to make sure that some of these laws which are too old are revised, we need not repeal, but we have to change it to ensure it is in line with the environment changes, to ensure that the interests of the State Government and the State are put on the right path," he said.

He said there are some Bills that involve the Constitution which he should have tabled during the State Budget sitting but couldn't because at that time the focus was on the State Budget.

"This year because of the relatively short time, there will be some matters that will be tabled at the State legislative sitting," he said.

When asked how many Bills are expected to be tabled, he said "We will table perhaps four, I am not sure, the detailed part of it will be announced by the Speaker."

Meanwhile, Shafie denied saying that the Auditor-General's 2017 report on Sabah's financial standing have been tampered with.

"I didn't say that...I didn't say that it was tampered," he said. "Only that the report is not exhaustive, SLDB having problem...its management and administration...there has to be some detail on this.

"I didn't say that it was tampered with...like 1MDB, everybody knows about 1MDB but how come the report was not there," he said.

He was commenting on a report by a news portal which stated him as suggesting that the Auditor-General's 2017 report on Sabah's financial standing could have been tampered with after it emerged that the State's accounts were in order. The portal's report was also picked up by Daily Express, among others.
