The fight must go on, says Bung
Kota Kinabalu: It is timely for Sabah Umno to be led by energetic and dignified "fresh blood", said its newly-appointed liaison chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. He said Sabah Umno will be further strengthened by a line-up of young and credible leaders.

Bung, who is also Kinabatangan Umno chief, was appointed to lead Sabah Umno following the exodus of its top leadership led by Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

While describing Sabah Umno as being struck down by a bad tragedy, one after another, he is persistent to face the challenges.

"It is not easy to lead an organisation like Umno in Sabah. Furthermore, now, we are doing it alone.

"But we must rise up to the challenge and the fight must go on," he said.

He is confident that there are still Umno members at the grass-roots level who are still loyal to the party's struggle.

"The actions taken by those who left the party do not reflect the intention of more than 500,000 members in the State.

"I have contacted several leaders, including young leaders and they are more eager to lead as they will be given bigger roles in future.

"Sabah Umno will be stronger and bring new hope for the people, and I will do my best to carry out my duties," he said.

He also thanked Umno president Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the appointment which was announced, on Wednesday, by the party's secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Meanwhile, Keningau Umno Youth Chief Ajin Sujaree said they were surprised by the decision of some Sabah Umno leaders to abandon the party's struggle and become independents.

Ajin said Keningau Umno Youth also respected the decision by former divisional head, Datuk Haji Sairin Karno, to leave the party.

"I believe many more party fighters still love Umno and still want to stand firm under the banner of Umno's struggle.

He called on loyal supporters to stay united and work to form the government in the next General Election.
