PPBM's entry will not be threat to Warisan's position: Lajim

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan) reassured that the entry of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) will not be a threat to Parti Warisan's position as the leading political party in the state.

Its President Datuk Lajim Ukin said PPBM would instead make Parti Warisan and other Pakatan Harapan components stronger in the next general election.

"PPBM's entry will strengthen the Warisan-led government to win seats won by the opposition in the next general election.

"They (Warisan) don't have to worry. If Warisan doesn't want PPBM to contest in the next general election, we will abide and in fact we will even help their candidates to win," he said.

He was commenting on Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal who had said that his party was firm on its stand of not wanting PPBM to come to Sabah.

He said Shafie's statement that both parties already had an understanding that the peninsula-based party must stay out of Sabah needs a re-think for the interest of the people of Sabah.

Local leaders including those formerly with Umno have expressed their support for PPMB to set foot in Sabah.

However, PPMB chairman cum Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said the party will not come to the state.

When asked if the party indeed would not come, Lajim said he would respect such decision but pledged that Harapan members will continue to join regardless. - Iskandar Dzulkifli
