Pekida: We've nothing to do with similar sounding Perkida
Kota Marudu: Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Pekida) Sabah said it has nothing to do with the similar sounding Perkida which wants Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM or Bersatu) to expand to Sabah. It blamed a spelling mistake could have caused the confusion in the acronyms of the two organisations, the other of which is led by Datu Dr Datu Dr Muhammad Akjan Datu Ali Muhammad.

Pekida Kota Marudu Chairman Ahmad Ridwan Ghazali said the organisation is neutral and pledges its support to both PPBM whose chairman is the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who is also Sabah Chief Minister.

"Maybe there was a spelling mistake because Akjan is not the president of Pekida but of Perkida. Both are two different NGOs who share almost the same acronyms," he clarified.

He was referring to a Sabahkini2 article entitled "Sultan Sulu Daftarkan 19,000 Penyokong Sertai Bersatu di Sabah" (Sultan Sulu Registered 19,000 of Supporters in Bersatu in Sabah) dated 5 January 2019 which he said mentioned Datu Akjan as Pekida president.

He said Pekida is a nationwide organisation registered under the Registar of Societies and led by a Jamaludin Yusof from Sungai Petani Kedah, whereas Perkida Sabah is only registered in Sabah. He added that Pekida in Sabah has 5,421 registered members. - Patimang Abdul Ghani
