Pahang’s Sumareh given local player status: MFL
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) on Monday approved Pahang Football Association’s (PFA) request to register Malaysia’s naturalised footballer Mohamadou Sumareh as a local player in the Malaysian League effective immediately.

MFL Chief Executive Officer Kevin Ramalingam in confirming the matter said the MFL Board of Directors decided to allow Pahang’s appeal to register the Gambia-born footballer as a local player in the first transfer window of the 2019 season.

He said the decision was made after a detailed discussion as well as taking into consideration the 24-year-old’s contribution to the national team which reached the final of the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup recently.

In Monday’s statement, Kevin said the decision was just and fair to PFA and Sumareh and describes it as a positive step towards improving the quality of the league.

Based on Malaysian League rules, each team is required to register a provisional team list of 20 players including three goalkeepers the latest by last Thursday before submitting the full team list of 30 players on February 20. – Bernama
