LABUAN: The Labuan Dayak Association called for a Labuan Cultural Home to be developed in order to stimulate more cultural activities here.
Its Chairman, Anna Jessi said the Labuan Dayak Association as well as other bodies here can fully utilise the facility if it were to be realised in the future.

“The Cultural Home will be able to provide the needed facilities and an attractive platform for cultural associations to carry out their activities.
“”The Home will not only spur cultural activities but also become one of the main tourism products here which will attract tourists to visit Labuan,” she said.
Anna also suggested that airlines create a new route for direct flights to Labuan from Kuching.
Currently, those who wish to travel to Kuching from Labuan will have to transit in Miri. “The new route will not only facilitate people’s travel, particularly Sarawakians, but can also attract tourists who are in Borneo to visit Labuan.

“It will be possible to start with one or two flights during the festive seasons to study the current market first,” she spoke during her welcoming speech at the Association’s Appreciation Night with Anak Sarawak here. Anna also presented a token of appreciation to the Information Department for their continuous support for the association’s activities.
“The Department had even created a special corner for Sarawakians formerly under the 1Malaysia community.

Meanwhile, Labuan MP Datuk Rozman Isli who officiated the ceremony, lauded the role played by the Labuan Dayak Association which had long been established here.
“The Association had been one of the active NGO’s in promoting community development in Labuan, particularly in the aspect of unity.
“When many associations that represent the ethnic groups in Borneo actively present their respective cultures it will be more reflective of Labuan as the Pearl of Borneo.
“It is important for us to show Labuan unity at all levels to be more respected by the central government’s leadership so that they will hear our wishes in Labuan,” he said.
