Three foreigners nabbed for fishing in prohibited area

TAWAU: Marine Police nabbed three foreign fishermen aged between 18 and 35, after they were found operating a trawler in prohibited area near Sungai Laba waters at about 9am, Monday.
Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Commander, ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said, marine team was on Op Gelora patrol duty detected the trawler boat some 1.54 nautical miles off Sungai Laba coastline.

He said further inspections showed that the 35-year-old skipper, 35, and his two crew, 18 and 19, had foreign passports.
The trio were escorted to the Marine Police Tawau Operation Base for further investigation.
He said the case is investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 for violating the licence’s condition by trawling at prohibited area.
The case will be handed over to Fisheries Department for further action.

In another case, two undocumented immigrants were also detained after marine police on Op Gelora duty stopped their speedboat off the Tanjung Saima waters at about 2.30pm on Monday.
Mohamad Pajeri said the speedboat was moving from Sungai Melayu towards the Tawau Port.

“Upon checking, the boat was found registered in Tawau and operated by a 33-year-old Indonesian passport holder.
“However, two of his male passengers, aged 32 and 34, were found with no documents,” he said, adding that the duo was brought to Marine Police Base for further investigation under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. - Lagatah Toyos
