China investors top Shafie’s list

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said he will make sure that investments will come to Sabah this year and his first mission will be to China.
He hoped Sabahans, especially the business community, will support the State Government’s effort by standing united to ensure the State will continue to prosper amid the various challenges faced locally and internationally.

“This year I will make sure that investments will come to Sabah. This year I will be going to China, I will bring back some of the Chinese investors.
“I already met several of them. There are two of them who have expressed intentions to invest more than RM6 billion in Sabah. But we have to realise this, and that is why I am going to China.
“We have to work together, like what we always called here Kongsi-Kongsi,” he said when officiating the Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival organised by the United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) at Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex, Saturday.
The Chief Minister is also confident that with such festival the Tionghua community in Sabah would continuously be able to preserve their traditional cultural heritage.

“I also promise that the State Government will continuously support such an event like this, which is a noble effort by the private entity that want to contribute to the unity among people of various cultures in the country and Sabah, especially,” he said.
Hoping such an event would bring together people of various different cultures to unite for mutual benefit, he said the people must continue to respect one another and live in harmony together, as only when there is peace and harmony there will be prosperity.

“The people of Sabah must continue to be united. When there is strong unity among us we can continue to develop our country and Sabah, especially,” he said.
Mohd Shafie also handed over the State Government financial support of RM150,000 to USCCAKK, received by its President Datuk Susan Wong, during the event. The association also received RMB50,000 sponsorship from the Consul-General of People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Liang CaiDe.
Wong thanked the new State Government, under the open-minded and good leadership of Mohd Shafie, for the financial allocation for the annual event.
