“Discussions will be held with the relevant parties including district officers, councils and the affected residents,” he said after handing over identity cards (IC) and birth certificates, Monday, to owners whose documents were destroyed in the fire last week.
Also present was Sabah National Registration Department (NRD) Director Datuk Ismail Ahmad.
Awang said an official announcement on the outcome of the discussions would be made.
He expressed gratitude to the NRD for its swift action in helping the fire victims who had lost their documents.

“Today we could see the Director himself handing over the documents that were destroyed in the fire. This not only shows the department’s efficiency in handling the situation but also the speed in carrying out the work.
“This gives a good impact not only to the villagers who received the good service but also reflects the image of the NRD in handling cases which involve documents destroyed in a disaster,” he added.

Asked whether there were non-citizen victims in the fire, Ismail said there were some but have valid working passes. - Jeremy S Zabala
