Tunding Ondopoyoe, 75, one of the villagers in Kampung Malangkap Baru, said the tremor was felt in his village which is located next to Mount Kinabalu.
“The most recent quake was at the magnitude of 5.2, in Ranau, in March last year,” he said.
“It was the second stronger tremor after the 2015 quake.”
The former Sabah Ranger personnel said, he is always on the alert for any similar incident and he would use his gong to inform the other villagers.

“During the 2015 quake, we beat the gong 10 times before assembling at the road and moved towards a field on a hill in Kampung Malangkap Tomis, about two kilometres from here,” he said.
He said, several houses were damaged due to the mud flood while some fish ponds and paddy fields were also affected during the big quake.

“The quake which happened last year made us scared as it was so strong that it made rocks and soil slided down to the foot of the mountain.
“Several homestay owners and I were having a meeting at the multipurpose hall when it happened at 9.06pm, and it made us ran for our lives,” he said. - R. Gonzales
