Couple among nabbed  for drugs in Ranau
RANAU: Four people, including a couple, were nabbed by the National Anti Doping Agency (AADK) during the Ops Cegah raid in several villages here on Sunday night.

AADK Ranau Chief, Hazrie Attin said the arrest involving three men and a woman aged between 30 and 36 was carried out from 9 to 11 pm, following public complaint on drug abuse activities here.

“Following a tip off from a concerned public, we conducted a week-long surveillance around Kg Kilimu and Tanah Merah before raiding the area.

“The first arrest involved the couple. At first, the woman (the suspect) denied taking drugs but after her husband confessed, the woman admitted immediately. 

The inspection done in their house however unable to locate the equipment used in their activities and we suspect that they were tossed away by the suspects earlier,” he said.

The second arrest involved a suspect in a house and another in an auto workshop in the nearby area as well.

“All arrested individuals were found positive for syabu after initial screening of the urine,” he said.

He said the three men were investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Drug Addict (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 while the women received an officer’s bail and had to report to the Ranau District AADK office until the mention of the case in court.

Hazrie stressed that AADK Ranau will continue to monitor from time to time to combat drug addiction in this area. “Anyone who has any information on illegal drug activities can contact AADK Ranau at 088-877 866 or come to our AADK Office,” he said.

In KENINGAU, police arrested five locals suspected of being involved in a fight in front of a shop in town here on Saturday, District Police Chief, Deputy Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said.

Speaking to the Daily Express, Tuesday, he said the arrest of the five suspects aged 22 and 53 was due to a police report lodged by an entertainment centre manager here.

The arrests were made by the District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department  on Monday about 3.30pm.

“The five suspects were remanded Tuesday afternoon for investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code for riot,” he said.

In a police report lodged by the Manager of the entertainment center said at about 2.30am on Jan 19 while in front of the shop to stop two friends who had quarrel, an unknown man came from behind and continued to hit the complainant using a belt.

The complainant suffered injuries on the left cheek, head and shoulder. - Clarence GD and Johan Aziz
