Villagers urge upgrade of Pitas road

PITAS: About 200 villagers held a peaceful rally, on Sunday, to urge the authorities to facilitate the upgrading of the main road of Pitas to Mangkubau Laut, Mangkapon, Telaga, Malubang, Mapan-Mapan and other villages.
More than 45 kilometres of the road, starting from Kampung Datong, had not been sealed.

Rally coordinator Balasundaram Kalippan said it is saddening to see the people in some 60 villages around the area had not experienced progress, in terms of infrastructure development.
However, Bala who is also Pitas Recreational and Welfare Association President hoped the rally will not be misinterpreted by any quarter.
“The rally is not a sign of protest to the present government…we just want to appeal to the government so that they will help to expedite the upgrade of roads to connect more villages and benefit more than 15,000 villagers,” he said.
“We understand the financial constraints faced by the government, but we beg the government to listen to our plight.”

For assistant public health officer Abdullah Isah who has been working in Kampung Bongkol Health Clinic for 23 years, said they have informed the relevant authorities about the road situation numerous times.
“However, we have yet to receive any news or see any action taken.

“The unsealed road made it harder for us to send patients from the health clinic to Pitas Hospital…various incidents happened previously, and the worst was a critically-ill patient died while on his way to the hospital,” he said.

He added, the road must be upgraded as soon as possible, especially when they have been provided with two fully-equipped ambulances.
