MMEA foils sea robbery
SEMPORNA:

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) stopped three suspected sea robbers in a pump boat at Tanjung Tabu-Tabu waters on Tuesday.

However, they managed to evade arrest by jumping into the sea. District Maritime Director Commander Norrimi Hassan said the operation was carried out at 4.30am when a team stopped a suspicious boat at the scene.

However when approaching the boat, all three jumped into the sea. Norrimi said inspection found several weapons such as a Samurai sword, machete, knife and short machete (barong) in the boat.

“The weapons are believed to have been used for robbery and black mailing victims at sea,” he said. The items and the boat along with its engine worth RM5,000 were brought back to Azumi Camp jetty for further investigation under the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapon Act 1958. - Lagatah Toyos
