KOTA KINABALU: A secondary student undergoing swimming lessons with a teacher, swimming coach and a group of other students drowned at the Likas Sport Complex pool, Tuesday.

City police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the group of students from a school in Luyang, here, were having their swimming lessons at about 11.15am.

During the session, the 14-year-old male student, who had an address in Luyang, was found drowned and rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II, here.

The party that brought him arrived at the hospital at about noon where a doctor, after giving him breathing treatment, confirmed him as dead 38 minutes later.

“Initial investigation at the pool showed no foul play,” said Habibi on Wednesday.

“A post-mortem is to be carried out today [Wednesday] by the Forensic Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I and so far we are still awaiting the result of a toxicology test from the Chemistry Department,” he said, adding investigation is ongoing. - Zam Yusa
