Lajim: Pick leader free of any scandal

Kota Kinabalu: The PPBM leadership must ensure that whoever it picks to head its chapter in Sabah must be free of any scandal to avoid the peninsula-based party from being branded as Umno 2.0.Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah President Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin (pic) said the people will reject any scandalous leaders as they did when they voted out the previous government.

“The leaders they choose must be able to serve and are approved by the people. They don’t want those who are laced with scandals. These leaders will be a liability to the party,” he said. PPBM Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad confirmed on Friday that the party will establish a chapter in Sabah.
This came despite resistance from Parti Warisan Sabah and its coalition partners, all of whom have repeatedly said that PPBM should honour the agreement made before the 14th general election.
It is learnt that 80,000 Sabahans will join the party whose President Tan Sr Muhyddin Yassin has been given full control over who its chapter will be shaped in the State.
Lajim, who claimed to be the one who engineered the party’s entry to the State, said he was pleased with Dr Mahathir’s announcement, saying it also reflected the wish of the people in the State.

He also said he will be meeting him soon to further discuss matters regarding the party’s entry to Sabah.
“Harapan has been fighting hard to bring PPBM to Sabah,” he said, adding that with PPBM in Sabah, Warisan will not be pestered by the opposition as most of their leaders will have joined the peninsula-based party. – Iskandar Dzulkifli
