Graft: Ex-executive officer remanded

KOTA KINABALU: A 42-year-old former executive officer of a local authority was remanded a week to assist investigation for receiving bribes of more than RM20,000 for awarding contracts to 10 companies.

Magistrate Afiq Agoes granted the remand order for the suspect, who is currently the Assistant Executive Officer of a rural district office, starting from Thursday.

The remand order was applied by Investigating Officer Mohd Faliq Basiruddin from the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to Faliq, the suspect allegedly received the bribe after giving contracts for supply and service works to the companies between 2017 and 2018.

He added that the actual amount involved is still under investigation under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

The suspect was pick-up by MACC at 12.30pm on Wednesday. – Cynthia D Baga
