SEREMBAN: The Nilai 3 Wholesale Centre near here, a new shopping paradise in the state, has ambitious plans to emerge as the largest wholesale centre in South-east Asia.Set up only a year ago, it has been well-received as evident by the number of visitors patronising the place, sometimes reaching 10,000 during weekends and public holidays from 3,000 on weekdays.

Among the pull factors for the centre - set up initially to promote goods from China, was that it housed well-known suppliers and wholesalers, its Managing Director, Wong Ah San, said yesterday.

From just over 20 outlets when it started a year ago, there are 130 outlets today with more to come,” he said.

He said the centre aims to serve the whole South-east Asian region following the coming onstream of the Asean Free Trade Area (Afta) this year.

This was also in line with state government’s policy of stimulating the economy, particularly the tourism industry by turning Nilai 3 Wholesale Centre into a wholesale and shopping paradise as well as tourist centre,” he said.

Nilai 3 Wholesale Centre is strategically located at the Nilai 3 Industrial Park, which is about 40 km from Kuala Lumpur and is approximately 32 km from Putrajaya and Cyberjaya and about 17 km from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Among the goods available for sale at the centre are premium gift items, soft toys, toys, shoes, kitchenware, porcelain gift items, Chinese tea pots, art and paintings, display shelves, hardware, watches, textiles, clothes, furniture, fruits, Chinese herbs, bathroom accessories, textiles, household goods, Malay custom wedding accessories, handicrafts, aquarium and related products, local food products and tit-bits, stationery, lighting and decorations, and festival related foods and products.
